Allergy testing and treatment

Allergy testing and treatment integral Health Clinic - Ottawa Canada
Sue’s
approach to treating allergies is based on the NAET system (Nambudripad Allergy Elimination Technique). This identifies substances that may trigger an allergic response in the nervous system using a standardized muscle response. This allergic response is then ‘turned off’ by stimulating acupuncture points. This remarkable system is a painless, safe, non-invasive and effective way to make allergies disappear. It works with your body to achieve long lasting results. Treating allergies can help many different health problems.

The word allergy comes from the greek allos (different, strange) and ergon (activity). Allergy and sensitivity are essentially the same thing, meaning an inappropriate reaction by the body to a substance that is not harmful to it. The recognized allergy-related disorders like anaphylaxis, asthma, eczema, rhinitis and sinusitis have risen tremendously over the past 50 years. This is probably because of antibiotic use, immunization and an environment that contains too few microbes and too many synthetic chemicals. Allergy and sensitivity also contribute to many other diseases. These include autoimmune disorders, chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia, headaches, chronic pain, irritable bowel syndrome, many skin disorders, neurological and psychiatric diseases that are on the rise.

The conventional medical approach to allergy is of limited use. Most medical allergy specialists rely on testing that only detects one of many different kinds of allergic responses, which is mediated by IgE antibodies. These skin reactions to injected substances can miss many substances that you are allergic to, and treatment using enzyme-potentiated desensitization (allergy shots) can take years and is only partially effective. Drugs to treat allergy only mask the symptoms, and patients often develop tolerance or rebound phenomena, making matters worse.

Other alternative methods for testing and treating allergy can provide more information because they measure other things. Blood tests identify IgG antibodies against specific foods. Electrodermal testing measures changes in skin resistance. Sublingual provocation-neutralization measures changes in heart rate and specific symptoms. Results of previous allergy tests may provide useful information, so you should bring them with you.

What to expect At your first visit,
Sue will use an arm muscle test to assess your response to a wide variety of foods, environmental substances and electro-magnetic frequencies. This will identify which specific allergens are causing specific symptoms you have, and nutritional deficiencies that might be important for you. Aspects such as emotional issues and structural imbalances will also be taken into consideration. You will get a guidebook summarizing your results and containing important advice. The testing is simple and painless, but in the case of children under about 5 or 6 yrs old, for seniors or infirm people, for people with shoulder problems and for animals testing is carried out through another adult, a surrogate.

Sue has over 300 potential allergens available for testing, however if you feel you are reacting to something in particular please bring a small amount with you so she can test it.

Treatment for your allergies involves stimulating acupuncture points on the back that regulate the sympathetic nervous system. This painless tapping turns off the alarm response that your body has developed in the presence of the allergens. In this way the body learns to associate the allergens with being in a calm, balanced state. This principle makes it possible to treat your response to foods, household cleaners, cosmetics, moulds, dust, pollens, construction and furniture chemicals and even specific weather patterns.

Most allergens clear with one treatment, however in the case of longstanding or severe allergies it may take several treatments to completely desensitise your body. Each time you return for treatment Sue will check the allergens which were treated the previous time and treat them again if necessary. It is usually possible to also treat a new group of allergens at the same visit. Sometimes it is necessary to treat combinations of allergens. Common combinations would be yeast with wheat, milk with grains, tomato with cheese, but any combination is possible. Most people have a few combinations, some have more.

The NAET system of testing and treatment is safe for people of all ages, from the newborn to seniors. It can also be used to treat animals. Most people require around 10 sessions to turn off their allergies, but if you react to a large number of allergens or are highly allergic, you may need considerably more. However, Sue’s modified approach does not take as long as conventional NAET. Every person she sees is different and she will work with your body to provide the best treatment for you. Daily treatments are possible, but most patients have 1-2 sessions per week.

For some people NAET is not the best option to resolve their health issues, if this is the case Sue will advise you in the first visit of the best approach for you. This may involve homeopathy, hypnotherapy, osteopathy, nutritional counselling, acupuncture or energy healing.
