is a set of techniques that are used primarily for treating allergies to foods and environmental allergens but also numerous other substances. NAET stands for Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Techniques and is named after Devi Nambudripad, a California based Doctor who first developed the NAET protocol in the 1980s and has been refining it ever since.
NAET is based largely on Acupuncture and TCM principles which recognize the body's amazing abilities of fend off pathogens and heal itself when it is brought into balance and harmony. Due to every day stresses, environment, medication, diet, lifestyle, and other specific factors that impact on individual's health, the body and its various systems can be thrown out of balance and begin to function sub optimally. This could be due to a sudden and severe exposure to certain pathogens such as microbes, chemicals and toxins. Or it could be due to a gradual deterioration in the body's natural defenses due to decreased organ function and lower Qi (energy).
As a first step in the NAET protocol it is necessary to determine which of the body's organ systems and associated meridian (energy) channels are out of balance particularly in the presence of an allergen or other offending substance. With this information it is then possible, by stimulating specific points on the body, to bring it back into balance. Once in balance the body can then be retrained to respond appropriately when exposed to what are generally benign substances and to not trigger allergic reactions which are not only discomforting but also use up the body's precious stores of energy.
NAET treatments are given to patients in a specific order which is provided in the AVOIDANCE panel on this web site. The first 15 items which are treated for are referred to as Basic NAET. They consist of Vitamins, Minerals, Proteins and other fundamental substances which are found in the foods that we consume or are otherwise exposed to. When the body is in a weakened state it is important to not stress the body and the immune system any further. This is the primary reason for addressing the Basic NAET allergens first and in a specific order. Moving too quickly to complex allergens such as cat or dog hair, dust mites or chemical compounds can prove to be ineffctive and sometimes counterproductive.
Each NAET treatment involves the patient holding an allergen vial in their hand while certain acupressure points are stimulated. Typically, a treatment takes approximately 30 minutes if things go smoothly. However, sometimes the body is out of balance or has difficulty clearing a particular item. There may be emotional blockages associated with certain allergens which have to be dealt with. In such cases more time may be required to treat and successfully clear the allergy.
Each treatment is followed by an avoidance period which is typically 25 hrs. but may vary. During this period, depending on the treatment given, certain foods and or substances must be avoided. A list of the foods and substances to avoid after each treatment is provided to the patient. At each visit the patient is tested for the previous item treated before proceeding to the next treatment.
As the body's immune system is strengthened more complex allergens can be treated until the patient's allergy responses are brought under control.
